Supermodel Ojy Okpe! Proudly Naija!

Nigerian beauty Ojy Okpe wears many hats; she is a model, actress, philanthropist and producer.

Ojy, one of six children was born on Nigeria's East Coast to diplomatic parents. As a result she spent much of her childhood travelling her home country.
South African model scout Jan Malan discovered her and entered her into the continental modelling competition, where Ojy gave a good showing and ended up as one of the finalists. She won a contract from Storm Model Management, which precipitated a move to South Africa. In South Africa, she was featured in several top publications, including Cosmopolitan, Drum, Elle and Ture Love.

Her modelling work in South Africa led to opportunities in New York, where she promptly became the face (and body) of swimwear brand Gottex. According to her website, while she was in New York she did trunk shows for top designers, including: Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren, Versace, Oscar de la Renta, Jean Paul Gaultier and Moschino. She is represented by Next Models Los Angeles, OmodelAfrica and Ikon Model Management. Not content to rest on her laurels, Ojy got a degree in Communications and Film Production from St John’s University while she was in New York. She also featured in top Hollywood blockbusters The Devil Wears Prada, Spiderman 3, and Confessions of a Shopaholic. Judging from her tweets, Ojy is also a fan of the film industry back here in Nigeria.

Her love of film inspired her to start a production company, called Third Mainland Productions. According to the website for the company, 'Ojy wrote, directed and edited three student films, and she is currently producing a documentary about the Niger Delta crisis'. Earlier this year she was seen at the Cannes Film Festival hanging out with talented Nigerian actor and director Kunle Afolayan.

The Nigerian beauty is also a philanthropist; she has a charitable foundation called the Ojy Okpe Foundation. The primary aim of the organisation is to help underprivileged and sick children. Ojy works with the Salvation Army and the Red Cross to help raise awareness about the serious issues faced by children in Nigeria and the rest of the continent.
