He is set to emerge from the shadow of smash hit ‘Oleku’ and shake off his image
of guest artist with the release of his highly anticipated second album #TheSonOfaKapenta.
In 2010, when Nigerian rapper Ice Prince was looking for a suitable hook for his now-famed ‘Oleku’ hit song, the name Brymo readily came to mind. Brymo had made a name for himself as a good singer, so it wasn’t hard for Ice Prince to settle on him. Together, they created what to date, is Ice Prince’s biggest hit song. Brymo’s credibility grew, and across the Nigerian music scene, he was being regarded as the master of hooks and a star for the future.

And that to
his unflappable style of singing and a rather flawless handling of some of the
complex music genres, and you will get a certain Brymo, who guarantees a global
hit. In what started as an experiment some years back, dropping his debut album
Brymestone in 2007 to critical acclaim, Brymo has grown to become that artiste
you would want to feature in a song which needs attention.
In the past two years, he’s managed to grow his mainstream appeal, building a unique style that has sunk deep into the hearts of the people who enjoy listening to his songs. That Brymo is a fine talent, is an obvious truth the Nigerian music industry can’t run away from.
Away from the shadows of 'Oleku', Brymo has created his personal hits, cementing his position as a mainstream act, ready to soar on to greater heights. In between a successful calendar year 2011/2012, he’s released three chart-topping singles including the multi-award winning 'Ara', 'Good Morning', and 'Go Hard'.
Under the direction of his label Chocolate City, all three singles have readily found their way onto local and international platforms. A multiple award winner, he recently won Record of the Year at the Headies, Nigeria’s most recognised Hip Hop awards scheme. On November 15 this year, after a long wait, Brymo officially released his 13-track #TheSonofaKapenta album. The album features all three hit singles 'Ara', 'Good Morning', and 'Go Hard', as well as other potential hits like 'Life is 2 short', 'Akara', 'See Me', 'Omoge Campus', 'Your Love' and 'Chocolate'.
Brymo is no doubt, the Nigeria’s Master of Hooks. Singer, songwriter, composer, and recording artist Ashimi Olawale ‘BrymO’ was born to a carpenter father and trader mother in 1986. According to his label’s website he “grew up in a community where opportunities were hard, but despite all the hardship, his parents ensured that he got an average education, and a good upbringing”.

#TheSonofaKapenta has subtle traces of fuji, a genre Brymo is well versed in,
alongside contemporary afro beats. The album was produced by resident Chocolate
City producer Jesse Jagz, who also featured on the album along with E Kelly and
other talented Nigerian producers. It also features appearances from Pryse, Ice
Prince, and M.I. The album will be Brymo’s first since joining Chocolate City in
2010.
Brymo’s label Chocolate City is upbeat about the success of the album: “Brymo proved his versatility as an artist on this album. Tracks like 'Akara' and 'Your love' have an international dance feel which is guaranteed to get you on the dance floor”.
